Moving Right Along
When we moved in here, we transferred a bunch of bills:
  • Keyspan (gas)
  • Time Warner (Cable)
  • Verizon landline (canceled this)
  • ConEd (electric)
Here are the things that went wrong:
  • Keyspan - Decided we've lived here since August and owe them money
  • Time Warner - Box stopped working after two weeks for unknown reasons
  • Verizon landline - didn't acknowledge we canceled it
  • ConEd (electric) - No problems... YET
Consequently my driver's license is about to expire.  WTF?  It was only good for four years...?  In Michigan those puppies used to last like eight years or more if you were over 21.  Gotta do my taxes... goddamn being an adult sucks.

i want to say ConEd is the big electric company in Chicago as well. when my friends moved into a newer place up there they had all kinds of problems because the previous tennant didn't pay his bills for a year and refused to believe they were not him and therefore they did not exist.

In certain religions and mythologies, problematic bill payments are viewed as a sort of karmic retribution, generally reserved for libelers who say things like "Daryl Surat would like Black Blood Brothers because it's less than 50 episodes long and is overall just average."

Perhaps the will of the heavens, after checking Wikipedia and determining that yes indeed, both Fist of the North Star and Legend of the Galactic Heroes span well over 100+ episodes, decided to punish this act by depriving you of the ability to watch The Dog Whisperer. The will of the heavens already knew that I quite famously and often proclaim that I eschew mediocre/average shows entirely in favor of shows that are either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad such that the line separating the two no longer exists.

But take heart (warning: don't let him see the sight of his own blood because he hates that). If this were the 80s, this sort of karmic retribution would have been unnecessary. The will of the heavens would have sent John "Sleepy" Estes to your house instead to give you either the schtupping or the shotgunning of a lifetime. That was just how New York City was back then.

I think you are more likely to read my reviews if I mention your name specifically.

I'll continue to make inaccurate statements about you as long as you say inaccurate things about me, like assuming I watch "The Dog Whisperer". I only watch that with my parents. I primarily use cable to watch South Park and use the on-demand exercise channel.

Hey. What's wrong with the Dog Whisperer? I have successfully adapted many of those techniques to managing management.

I think you should write a book about this!

I think the Dog Whisperer would be far superior as a pop-business management movement than those Fish Philosphy people from Seattle!

ALWAYS always cancel and reopen.

In my experience with moving, always cancel utilities and services before you move and reopen new accounts. They never get the billing right and often just create a new account in their system for your new address while the old account still gets billed or they transfer balances in weird ways between the two accounts.

Always cancel and reopen.

Also, why not just get VOIP from TWC and cut out Verizon alltogether?

BTW, you should check Consumerist.com for executive email addresses and service phone numbers. If not, just write them and email. They love posting stories like these.

We did cancel Verizon altogether! They just didn't believe us.
