Disappearing People
I have been reading the Disappearance Diary today, which won the Tezuka Cultural Award, Japan Cartoonist Association Award, and was a Japan Media Arts Festival finalist (or award winner). The story is about a manga artist who one day says he's going out for cigarettes and then lives in the woods for two months.

Coincidentally, I ran across this story of an American Anime fan disappearing in/to Japan. At first I thought it was funny and clever, and kind of MegaTokyo-style, until I got to the bit about her parents finding a suicide note composed in an unsent email by the girl. I have high hopes that she was going to fake her own death and start a new life in Japan.

One of the commentors in the forum links to The Complete Disappearance Manuel, which I think sounds like a fun guide to living a Disappearance Diary life, but instead it's about suicide. D'oh!

That reminds me of that song in the `90s about the old couple who decided to get into their car and start driving the highway until such time as they both croaked. It was nifty, until you heard that their corpses had been found at the side of the road and their kids were kinda a mess about it.

No, I can't remember the name of the song. I can't even google it as I can't remember even three lyrics.

Then, of course, there's the movie Into The Wild, which I did not see, but heard did not end happily.

I believe the song you're thinking of is called "The Way" by Fastball.

Sample lyric:
"But where were they going without ever knowing the way?"

The '90s was the only decade I actually listened to the radio.
